Known as Mrs. B to her cherished students, Mary-Lynn is an educator, speaker, and literacy leader with a passion for helping every student reach their full potential. With nearly two decades of experience spanning education, community leadership, and violence prevention, she brings a unique perspective that blends evidence-based practice with relationship-centered teaching.
Mary-Lynn currently serves as Student Engagement Lead for Nova District, where she supports student success across 16 schools. Previously, she worked as an Early Literacy Support Teacher, partnering with students, families, and educators to implement structured literacy interventions, conduct comprehensive assessments, and build sustainable literacy practices. Her classroom experience spans Grades 2, 4, and 6, where she became known for creating engaging, inclusive learning environments grounded in strengths-based and culturally responsive approaches.
She holds a Master of Education in Curriculum Studies from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Bachelor of Education from Cape Breton University with an additional concentration in Aboriginal and Indigenous Studies, and has completed advanced training in structured literacy, trauma-informed teaching, and behavioural interventions. Mary-Lynn is also a sought-after presenter, having facilitated professional learning in culturally responsive practices and presented at the GSA Advisors Conference on creating inclusive school communities.
Throughout her career, Mary-Lynn has championed initiatives that foster belonging, literacy, and student voice—from hosting Family Literacy Cafés and mentoring teachers to leading Gender and Sexuality Alliances and establishing culturally affirming learning spaces. Her work is driven by the belief that meaningful relationships, high expectations, and evidence-informed instruction can transform educational outcomes for all learners.
As a keynote speaker, Mary-Lynn brings practical expertise, authenticity, and an unwavering commitment to empowering educators to make a lasting difference in the lives of students.
